On the Mainland
There are two places to stay on the mainland within easy reach of Nananu-I-Ra Island.
Situated closer to the township of Rakiraki is the Rakiraki Hotel, which is well maintained,
with simple, good-value rooms in the old "country inn" style. All rooms have fans and
air conditioning. They have a swimming pool, half-sized tennis court, lawn bowling, and
a nine-hole golf course nearby. It has a bar and a restaurant which serves
home-style, reasonably priced meals.
Wananavu Beach Resort is a good middle-range option, situated on the beach opposite
Nananu-I-Ra Island. The resort offers two private deluxe beach bures with air conditioning
as well as
twelve garden or ocean view bures with ceiling fans, screens, refrigerator,
and tea & coffee-making facilities. There is a
swimming pool in the beautiful gardens, a marina, tennis
and volleyball courts, and snorkeling. The panoramic view from the bar and restaurant is
breathtaking, and both international and Fijian dishes can be enjoyed 7:30 a.m to 9:30 p.m.
On the Island
There are four budget places: McDonald's, Charlie's Place, Beatham's Cottages, and
Kontiki Lodge. All have dormitories and private cabins with cutlery, linen, cooking and laundry
facilities provided. Simple meals are available on request, though most food should be brought in.
